Tamara Kay

Tamara Kay is the Andrew W. Mellon Professor of Sociology at the University of Pittsburgh. She works on issues of trade, labor, social movements, globalization, culture, organizations, and global health (including reproductive health and rights). She is also Co-Editor of Studies in Comparative International Development. Her work engages two primary areas: transnational political economy, with a focus on labor and social movements, and transnational culture, centered on organizations and cultural processes at the international level. Her research has been supported by the National Science Foundation, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, and Harvard Medical School, among others. She is the author of the prizewinning books, "NAFTA and the Politics of Labor Transnationalism" (Cambridge 2011) and "Trade Battles: Activism and the Politicization of International Trade Policy" (Oxford 2018). Her third book Sesame Street Around the World: Culture, Politics, and Transnational Organizational Partnerships, is forthcoming from Oxford in its Culture and Politics series.
