Departmental Awards
Each year, the Sociology Department awards students who excel in our program.
Avery Award for Excellence in Sociology
This award, generously funded by the long-time Sociology Department professor Robert Avery and Minnie Avery, awards students who excel in sociology. The award is annually given to a sociology major who has achieved excellent grades in sociology courses and who has made a significant contribution to the department. In addition to the winner, there are two runner-ups who are also recognized.
There is no application process for this award; the winners are determined by a committee of professors within the department.
