Sociology Department Welcomes Three New Ph.D.s

The Department of Sociology is pleased to announce the successful dissertation defense and conferral of the Ph.D. degree for:

  • Ben Case, whose dissertation, When Yelling Isn’t Good Enough: Riots and Non-nonviolent Civil Resistance, passed the committee with distinction.
  • Alana Fields, for “Coaching Boys Into Men”: Exploring Implementation, Evaluation, and Content of a Gender-Transformative Violence Prevention Program. Dr. Fields started a postdoctoral appointment in the Division of Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh under former committee member, Dr. Elizabeth Miller.
  • Corinne Ogrodnik, with a dissertation entitled, Contentious Coalitions, Movement Divisions, and Strategic Action Fields: Factors Motivating an Unlikely Alliance of Environmental Organizations and Gas Companies.
